Richard - Domestic Abuse Related Suicide

Richard

Richard 02-09-2019

Richard was a much loved, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was an infectious character with a huge love of life. Very talented in guitar and singing as well as an ability to talk and connect to anyone he met.

Living much of his adult life in Australia he built a successful business and a happy life there.

On a visit back to the UK he met a girl who he quickly got into a relationship with. We now know she used all the perpetrator tactics to woo Richard with love bombing, portraying herself as a victim and declaring love. In the short 20 months they knew each physical, emotional and financial abuse towards my brother drove him to loose all his love of life, become a shadow of himself and sadly feel life was not worth living. The details that we learnt post death and documented in his DHR (Domestic Homicide Review) showed what he has been subjected to that led him to this event.

Despite finding evidence of CCB (Coercive Controlling Behaviour) and a previous history of abuse for the perpetrator the police did not bring charges. Richard was also failed by the Coroner’s Court who chose to rule Domestic Abuse out of the scope of the Inquest.

He will be missed every day forever. A young man robbed of his future and opportunity to share joy and happiness in a world which prior to this relationship he loved so much. We continue to fight to save other lives and prevent further abuse.
