Kellie Sutton
Kellie was 30 when she died. She was a mother to 3 children age 14, 11 and 3. She was a brilliant mum and a beautiful daughter. She was full of life, always laughing, always dancing, and had a lot of friends. She would invite them round for girly nights where they could be like teenagers again, doing each other hair and makeup. She would often invite her friends round for a Sunday roast. Kellie was a happy girl, loving life.
In March 2017 she met Steven Gane and everything changed. She stopped wearing makeup and started to cover her body, which was strange because she wouldn’t have ever left the house without makeup on before. Gane very quickly moved in with her, and her family did not see much of her after then. She always made excuses, she was either out with him or out with her friends. Her mum didn’t think too much about it to begin because it was a new relationship, but then found out she was avoiding seeing her friends too. Nobody knew he was controlling and hitting her, she didn’t tell anyone, possibly due to the abuse. In August 2017, during the school summer break, the children went to stay with relatives. Kellie said that her and Gane were laying a new floor in their bedroom and asked if the children could stay with her relatives for longer.
On Wednesday the 23rd August 2017, Kellie’s mum was on Facebook and saw a picture of a ambulance outside Kellie’s house. Her friends were texting her asking what was wrong with Kellie. Kellie’s mum got a phone call from the hospital saying to get there as fast as she could, but were not able to say what had happened. When she arrived at the hospital, Gane and the police were there, she saw Kellie on life support and was told she had taken her own life, no one believed she would do that, her family and friends all knew that Steven Gane had done this to her. Kellie was on life support for 3 days and on the 26th August 2017 her life support was turned off.
Gane was arrested and was found guilty of coercive control and assault and sentenced to 4 years 3 months. he only served 2 years. He is now living his life while her family have got a life sentence.
Kellie was a beautiful soul and is missed every day by her family and friends
